Protocol Buffers are a way of encoding structured data in an efficient yet extensible format. Google uses Protocol Buffers for almost all of its internal RPC protocols and file formats.

Very useful, but somewhat slow.
This is a great package that makes it very easy to read and write data into Protocol Buffer format where it can easily be serialized and then shared with systems and tools written in other languages...
